PITA BREADS..THE ORIGINAL WRAP..sandwich ideas
These delicious breads have taken a backseat lately to the flour wraps that are everywhere.
Yet there is nothing more satisfying than any sandwich made with warm, chewy, Pita bread.
Wraps pale in comparison.
Here are some great and easy sandwich filings and healthier too:
1) Shredded cabbage, grated carrots, scallions/red onions, cooked chickpeas. Mixed well together and any dressing of choice.
may also add shredded.sliced apple and fresh herbs.
Allow to soak in the dressing for 20 mins then drain and pack into warmed pita pocket (the marinating helps break down the cabbage)
2) Cooked beets, minced garlic, cooked steamed potatoes, sour cream (or Ranch dressing), minced dill, toasted sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
3) TLT cooked bakon tempeh strips (or sauteed bell peppers with smoked paprika), sliced tomatoes, sliced onions, French dressing.
Any lettuce or tender green leaves. Crushed black pepper.
Dress and then add greens and pack the pocket.
4) Grilled/baked portobello mushrooms or thinly sliced eggplant, sliced tomatoes,also grilled, crispy lettuce garlic mayonnaise
5) Fried/poached egg with kale and red onion
6)Potato/veggie chips, garlic mayo, grated carrot, chopped celery, raisins or chopped dried apricots
7) Cooked chickpeas/beans/lentils; steamed barley, minced cilantro or parsley, minced mint, sliced tomatoes, feta cheese, cucumber
8) Nut Butter, roasted peppers, minced garlic, cooked green beans.
9) Drained cottage/feta cheese, shredded cabbage, minced onion, minced parsley, caramelized onions, sliced cooked mushrooms
10) Sliced or chopped cucumber, cream cheese, dill seed, pickles, warm french fries, sliced tomato.
