NOW THAT WE ARE ENTERING THE WARM/HOT SUMMER MONTHS,IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING SEASONAL (USA) FRUITS IN YOUR MARKETS ( AND CHECK IMPORTED FRUITS IN OVERSEA MARKETS, DON'T OVERPAY FOR WHAT ARE SEASONAL) AND PLEASE BUY LOCAL AND  LOCAL FARMS, WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

 IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER:

APRICOTS

BERRIES (RASPBERRY, BLUEBERRY BLACKBERRY, GOOSEBERRY, STRAWBERRY)

SWEET CHERRIES

FRESH FIGS  these are just coming in to the markets

TABLE SWEET GRAPES

HONEY DEW MELON

LEMONS, LIMES

MANGOES

NECTARINES (IF BUYING CALIFORNIA GROWN STONE FRUIT CHOOSE THE SMALLER ONES AS THEY ARE THE SWEETEST BECAUSE OF THE DROUGHT). ALSO DO NOT STORE STONE FRUIT  IN COLD TEMPS..DON'T REFRIGERATE OR THEY WILL BECOME DRY AND "MEALY, SO DON'T OVER BUY NO MATTER THE SAVING.

PEACHES (SEE NECTARINES FOR BUYING TIPS)

PINEAPPLES

PLUMS AND PLUOTS ( SEE NECTARINES POST FOR BUYING TIPS)

WATERMELON...BEST TYPE ARE THE ONES WITH BLACK SEEDS

Always wash all fruit well in clean running water, especially melons or others that you cut through the stems to serve.
Air dry  denser fruit.
Wash raspberries  & most berries, just before serving, or they will mold very quickly.

Even wash bananas before peeling, to avoid illness.
In summer months try and eat 5 portions of fruit per day as well as 5 servings of fresh vegetables, and eat more fruit before noon if possible, to avoid bloating and intestinal discomfort (fruit rots/breaks down in the gut once eaten).

if raw fruit is a problem try baking or poaching in fruit juice, do not add sugar and cook on very low heat..don't microwave fresh fruit.

HAPPY AND HEALTHY SUMMER EATING!!!
