EAT WELL =LIVE LONGER, HAPPIER

OK it is time for the monthly fruit that is seasonal and available in Southern California list, and as a lot of our fruit is exported world wide..you overseas readers will can also rest assured you are getting fresh, seasonal fruit.
I am also posting on this blog the best foods to eat to improve your health and fight various forms of cancer/disease, this info comes from The Nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America.



The fresh (seasonal and at their peak) fruit list for August is:
Apricots, Avocados, Bananas, Berries ( esp. our local grown), Blueberries, Cantaloupe melon, Table Grapes, Honey dew melons, Lemons, Limes, Mangoes, Nectarines, Peaches, Papaya, Pears, Plums, Pluots, Plantains, and Watermelons..also Tuscan Melon Musk Melon and all other melons ( not sure of bitter melon which is also a vegetable)


The Best (for optimal health so catch when they are in season) foods to eat year round when available seasonal:

Fruit:
Oranges
Limes
Tangerines
Banana
Strawberries
Cantaloupe
Guava
Apricot
Papaya
Apples
Blueberries
Grapes
Melon
Pears
Avocado



Vegetables:

Greens- beet, dandelion, lettuce, Brussels sprouts arugula, endive, salad greens ( the field grown pref. than hot house) turnip, cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, chard, collard, curly mustard, kale)
Tomato..field grown pref. over hothouse/grown under glass
Asparagus
Pumpkin and all yellow fleshed squashes
Sweet Potato
Yams
onions
parsley...use as a salad vegetable not a garnish
carrots..cooked they render more beta carotene to the human body
chili peppers 
green Bell peppers
Cilantro

Nuts..great source of vegetable protein but can be high in fats..so use sparingly, and only eat organic peanuts
almonds..soak overnight in clean fresh water, drain then eat, Brazil nuts eat sparingly as they contain high amounts of selenium,  macadamia ( high in fat), coconut, walnuts ..contain omega 3, pine nuts, pistachio..not salted, pecans contain omega 3 &6

Dairy..optional 

Goat's milk(easier to digest than cow's milk)
Not treated cow's milk 2% or fat free
plain Live yogurt
cottage cheese
aged cheeses
Buttermilk (also contains live bacteria) 

Soy is best eaten fermented as in wheat free soy sauce and tempeh..the human body absorb the proteins when it has been fermented and cell structure is breached by fermentation process.
